Keeping Growth Humming Along
Growing businesses often reach a point where doing good work is no longer enough. When every competitor looks and sounds the same, the brand itself can become the biggest obstacle to the next stage of growth. Hummingbird Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric of Syracuse, NY, found themselves at exactly that crossroads. Operating as 24 Seven HVAC, they had built a successful business—but ironically, they didn’t actually offer 24/7 service. Paired with red-and-blue branding that blended into a sea of white vans, the name didn’t reflect who they were or where they wanted to go. They knew that if they wanted to hire more people, grow the business and elevate their reputation, they needed a brand that would help them stand apart.
Making that leap wasn’t easy. “The investment was scary,” recalls owner Chad Terrinoni. “Changing it was scary. My only wish now is that I wish I had done it years before.”
Inspired by the hummingbird’s speed, agility and ability to fly in any direction, we developed a name that reflected the company’s responsive, adaptable approach to customer service. We paired it with the tagline “We Keep Comfort Humming Along” and a striking visual identity built around the bird’s vibrant colors. Instead of disappearing into the crowd of red, white and blue competitors, Hummingbird immediately became impossible to overlook. The new brand came to life across vehicle wraps, uniforms and print materials, giving the company a cohesive identity that finally matched the quality of its work.
The impact was immediate. “The transition was amazing,” Chad says. “We just kept our same Google reviews and put the new name and website. Everything went great. I feel like in the first week of rebranding, the phone rang more instantly.”
In 2024, that momentum had helped carry Hummingbird into its next chapter as the first acquisition of Grasshopper Group, a women-owned and led residential home services group created to unite companies across the Northeast. Built around sustainable growth, operational excellence and a people-first culture, Grasshopper Group’s mission aligned closely with the kind of company Hummingbird was becoming: one focused not just on growing revenue, but on creating opportunities that change lives.
By 2025, revenue had climbed to $8.3 million while average tickets reached $7,650—a dramatic jump from 2023, when the business brought in $900,000 in revenue with a $2,000 average ticket.
And the transformation reached far beyond revenue. Their investment in the brand created a renewed sense of pride throughout the company, strengthening the culture as well as the customer experience. “We get it all the time,” Chad says. “[The clients] can’t believe how happy our staff looks and acts when they’re in the house.” By giving the team a brand they could rally behind, Hummingbird created an identity that customers noticed just as much as employees did.
Looking back, Chad has no doubts. “I trusted the process 100%, and the outcome has been absolutely amazing and life-changing without a doubt.” Hummingbird’s remarkable growth proves that when you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone and invest in a brand that truly reflects the quality of service you offer, the results can transform far more than your logo—they can change the entire trajectory of your business and the lives of the people building it.
